Flatirons Solutions to Speak About DITA at Worldwide XML Conference

February 1, 2006

BOULDER, Colo. — Flatirons Solutions has accepted an invitation to speak at the PTC User World Event 2006, June 4-7, 2006, in Dallas, Texas. The event draws thousands of users and industry experts to interact and learn about the latest e-publishing products and technologies. As a leader in the XML-based publishing marketplace, Flatirons was asked to speak about its innovative publishing solutions that are supporting production operations for a wide variety of clients and industries.

Flatirons will conduct a very informative presentation about the hottest topic in the publishing industry - DITA. "Flatirons will provide practical advice on the comparison of DITA to DocBook and how to use DocBook to position your organization for a future transition to DITA," said Greg Beserra, President of Flatirons Solutions. "These are specific techniques that have already been successfully implemented for our clients."

Abstract: Today, DocBook and DITA have emerged as the two competing standards for encoding technical documentation in XML. While DocBook has been in use since 1991, DITA is quickly gaining notoriety as a unique and promising challenger. Many organizations are looking at these two approaches and attempting to decide which is best. The purpose of this presentation is to:

  • Summarize the similarities and differences between DocBook and DITA.
  • Identify the pros and cons of using each.
  • Illustrate specifically how to design DocBook applications to be compatible with DITA.
  • Show what it would take to transform this documentation to DITA in the future.

Flatirons will also present, "Leveraging Structured Content to Deliver Customized Public Safety Policy Manuals", which is based on another successful implementation of an XML-based solution.
