Flatirons Solutions to Speak About DITA at CMS 2006 Conference

November 1, 2005

BOULDER, Colo. — Flatirons Solutions has accepted an invitation to speak at the Center for Information-Development Management Content Management Strategies 2006 conference, April 3-5, 2006, in San Francisco, California. Flatirons' extensive experience with XML-based publishing, especially DITA, was a key factor since the conference is attended by information management and content management professionals.

Flatirons will highlight innovative practices and techniques that enable clients to use DocBook to prepare for their future transition to DITA. "Although DITA is here today, some clients are not quite ready to transition. We've developed specific, practical techniques that allow clients to continue to utilize DocBook, but in a way that positions them for a future transition to DITA," said Greg Beserra, President of Flatirons Solutions. "Our clients have already realized significant financial benefits from this approach."

Abstract: In a time when DITA is still evolving and tool support is scarce, many people face the dilemma of wanting DITA in the future but needing to use DocBook today. Others are moving new applications to DITA, but have existing DocBook applications that share related content. Although at face value DITA and DocBook are very different, this presentation will carefully analyze how book-centered DocBook can actually be designed in a flexible, topic-oriented manner. Based on a real-life case study, it will then show how properly-designed DocBook can be readily migrated to DITA.
