CTO to Speak at Content Management Strategies Conference

February 1, 2005

BOULDER, Colo. — Eric Severson, Flatirons Solutions' Chief Technology Officer, has been invited to speak at the 7th annual Content Management Strategies Conference April 11-13, in Annapolis, Maryland. The conference, sponsored by the Center for Information Development Management, attracts individuals and organizations that are at the forefront of component information management industry.

Severson's presentation, "Producing Sales and Marketing Content with XML", leverages Flatirons' vast experience in delivering innovative, XML-based content management and publishing solutions. It will provide a detailed step-by-step approach for publishing "creative" content in XML, backed by a live demonstration with a complex sales brochure. It will also provide a strong business case for using this approach, demonstrate where it is most applicable, and educate the audience on the impact of XSL-FO and SVG standards in this domain.

Abstract:  "While technical documentation has traditionally been the domain for structured authoring, there is increasing interest in using XML for more "creative" materials such as sales brochures and marketing collateral. Up to now, these materials have been produced one at a time in page-oriented publishing systems like Adobe InDesign and Quark. While this provides maximum flexibility in controlling exact page layouts, it can create a nightmare when small changes must be replicated across all the independent pages and documents.

Why can't we use XML to more flexibly handle this kind of content? In fact, we can! Through a detailed case study, and using page formats from real marketing content, this presentation will demonstrate how XML, XSL-FO and SVG can be used to maintain sales collateral, web pages, and product catalogs from a single source of XML information."

An internationally recognized XML pioneer and content management industry expert, Mr. Severson has over twenty years of experience in the technology field, ranging from hands-on product development and consulting to senior management roles in engineering and marketing. Mr. Severson is a past President of OASIS (formerly SGML Open), a past board member of the Graphic Communications Association (GCA), and was a member of the advisory boards of the AIIM Document Management Alliance and the Xerox Executive Roundtable for Document Technology.
